Lombok Waterfalls

Several well-known waterfalls grace the landscapes of Lombok Island

Sindang Gile Waterfall

Located in the Senaru village of Bayan subdistrict, North Lombok district, West Nusa Tenggara province, Sendang Gile Waterfall sits precisely 2 kilometers from Bayan village. Retaining its position within the Mount Rinjani National Park area, this captivating tourist attraction serves as the gateway to ascending Mount Rinjani. Besides its function as a mountain entry point, Sendang Gile’s refreshing waters originate from a cool and natural spring on Mount Rinjani, enhancing its allure.

According to local legends, Sendang Gile was once believed to be the bathing spot for angels whenever they descended to earth. Another tale suggests that the name originated when someone stumbled upon the waterfall incidentally while tracking a lion that had entered the forest after causing chaos in a village. Initially, the local villagers referred to the lion as Singa Gile, which means Crazy Lion. However, over time, the pronunciation evolved into Sendang Gile.

Residents believe that bathing or washing one’s face at Sendang Gile waterfall possesses mystical powers, aging a person by a hundred years beyond their actual age.

Situated at an elevation of 600 meters above ground level and boasting a height of approximately 31 meters from the riverbed, this waterfall showcases two distinct levels. The first level emerges from a cliff, cascading down into the pool below, while the second level features a graceful descent as the water slides into the pool, forming a river beneath

Tiu Kelep Waterfall

Nestled in Senaru Village, North Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara, Tiu Kelep Waterfall sits at the foot of Mount Rinjani, near Sendang Gile Waterfall. Standing tall at an impressive 42 meters, this cascading wonder features multiple tiers. Along the journey to Tiu Kelep, you’ll first encounter Sendang Gile Waterfall, situated closer to the entrance. As you proceed, the captivating spectacle of Tiu Kelep Waterfall unfolds before you.

In the local Sasak language, the name “Tiu Kelep” comprises two syllables – “Tiu,” meaning swimming pool, and “Kelep,” translating to fly. Combined, it evokes the poetic imagery of a ‘flying swimming pool,’ inspired by the enchanting foam that dances within the waterfall’s embrace.

Mirroring the allure of other waterfall destinations, Tiu Kelep is nestled inland, offering a refreshing and tranquil ambiance. Adorned with vibrant green moss and foliage, it provides an authentic natural experience for those drawn to the untamed beauty of a waterfall. Its strategic proximity to other attractions in the Mount Rinjani area further enhances the appeal of Tiu Kelep Waterfall, making it a destination well worth exploring

Benang Stokel Waterfall

Benang Stokel Waterfall, located in Aik Berik Hamlet, Setiling Village, North Batukliang District, earns its name from its striking resemblance to a cluster of threads. The nomenclature is not arbitrary; it accurately reflects the waterfall’s distinct physical attributes. Upon closer inspection, this waterfall appears as an elongated white thread with a luxuriously thick, white hue. Unlike conventional waterfalls that cascade with an unbridled rush of water, Benang Stokel exudes a more organized elegance, resembling threads gracefully converging downward. Moreover, this locale shares its proximity with its counterpart, Benang Kelambu Waterfall, whose cascading waters mimic the delicate drapery of a mosquito net.

The waterfall, bearing its distinctive name, draws numerous tourists, both local and international. To reach this enchanting destination from Mataram, a journey of 30 km typically takes about 1 hour. Opting for a private vehicle, travelers can navigate from Mataram to Narmada, then proceed through Sedau to Simpang Tiga Pancor Duo Village. Upon arrival at the entrance, visitors embark on a short walk to access the captivating Benang Stokel Waterfall.

Access to the Benang Stokel Waterfall area requires the purchase of a ticket. Ticket prices are IDR 3 thousand per person for local tourists, while foreign tourists are charged IDR 10 thousand per person.

Benang Kelambu Waterfall

Central Lombok Regency is not only home to captivating beaches but also hosts a notable waterfall in its northern region, attracting travelers.

The waterfalls in Central Lombok have garnered significant recognition, with one standout being the Benang Kelambu waterfall, situated not far from Benang Stokel.

Originating in the forested expanse at the foothills of Mount Rinjani, this waterfall descends gracefully southward, embellishing the northern territories of Central Lombok Regency.

Access to this location begins at a gate positioned at a considerable height, requiring travelers to descend hundreds of steps to reach it.

From the entrance gate to Benang Kelambu, travelers traverse a gravel road, partially paved with concrete, stretching about 2 meters wide. This road winds through plantations managed by local residents overseeing the forest area, with the journey taking approximately 20 minutes.

For those preferring a shorter walk, motorbikes are available, with a designated stop post for parking. Alternatively, travelers arriving by car can utilize the parking area provided by tourism management before the entrance.

Parking fees are reasonable, with IDR 2,000 for a motorbike and IDR 5,000 for a car. The entrance ticket is priced at just IDR 5,000 per person. Additionally, motorbike taxi transportation services are available at this location to ease access to the Benang Kelambu waterfall.

Mangku Sakti Waterfall

Mangku Sakti Waterfall is located in Sajang village, East Lombok, within the Sembalun area, serving as the gateway to Mount Rinjani in West Nusa Tenggara. The name Mangku Sakti Waterfall originates from a tale that recounts the story of a hermit named Mangku, renowned for his profound knowledge. Mangku often visited the serene environs of Mangku Sakti Waterfall, and his tale culminates with his passing at this very location.

Nestled at the base of Mount Rinjani, Mangku Sakti Waterfall showcases a river adorned with a diverse range of geology, characterized by exceptionally beautiful and unique rocks. Despite not being widely recognized among tourists, the waterfall offers an extraordinarily beautiful and enchanting view, arguably making it one of the most stunning waterfalls on the island of Lombok.
